There are few things you can do to minimise jet lag including avoiding caffeine and alcohol.
Travelling West
If you are are travelling west it is best to arrive in the afternoon so it's not too long for bed time.
Travelling East
If you are travelling east try to arrive in the morning. Take the night flight, watch a movie or read for a couple of hours then get some shut eye. Try not to nap as that will set your body clock all awry. You can then wake up when the plane lands and arrive for a full day ahead. If you have trouble sleeping shut your eyes anyway and listen to some soothing music. The music cuts out the sound of the engine and any screaming children.
I like to take an inflatable pillow (which provides neck support) and an eye mask on board to help me relax.
