Dress Up for the Jubilee 50s Style

One could say the Queen has been married twice. The first time she became wedded to Prince Philip; the second time at her coronation, she was wedded to the people. Each occasion required a dress of majestic beauty and on each occasion she chose dress designer, Norman Hartnell. With his theatrical training, Hartnell was the ideal person to make these spectacular dresses.

Creating a The work of Norman Hartnell with limited resources in producing a wedding dress for Princess Elizabeth in 1947 was outstanding. When the Princess was crowned Queen Elizabeth II in 1953, Norman Hartnell once again designed her lavish shimmering gown.

Millions in the UK and elsewhere in the world, saw the coronation on a friend or neighbour's small screen black and white television. For millions it was the first time they ever saw television and shortly after sales of television sets in the UK boomed, bringing ideas and fashions to the masses. This was costume history in the making.

Celebrate The Queen's Diamond Jubilee

Celebrate the British way
Marking 60 years of The Queen's reign, the Diamond Jubilee celebrations will centre around this extended weekend. I did a Sponge cake with white cupcakes and Bakewell tarts decorated with London iconic images.

60 years of The Queen's reign

The Queen came to the throne on 6 February 1952 and her coronation took place on 2 June 1953. She celebrated her Silver Jubilee (25 years) in 1977 and her Golden Jubilee (50 years) in 2002.
Communities all around the country will be celebrating over an extended bank holiday weekend, and there will be many ways to get involved in local events. Find a Diamond Jubilee event near you.

London Bus Cupcakes
In addition to the Big Jubilee Lunch in Piccadilly dozens of street parties will be taking place across the city. There is still time to organise informal celebrations, whether at home or in the great outdoors. More information and ideas

Dozens of local beacon lighting ceremonies will be taking place on the evening of Monday 4th June. Find out more about the beacons
