Canal side walk: Little Venice to Camden

Just north of Paddington lies Little Venice.

This picturesque pool of water is where the Grand Union and Regent’s Canals meet. It is home to a number of waterside barges, each reflecting the character of their owners.

From here we will follow the tow path and see how the winding waterway snakes its way through London.
We will head downstream past the charming regency streets of Maida Vale and on to Regent’s Park ending in Camden where there are some really fab eateries.
This is the morning canal side walk. The afternoon canal side walk will continue from Camden to Angel. Bring your friends or come on your own.
Both walks should take c.90 mins.

Regent's Canal Walk: Camden to Angel

Camden Lock
We start in Camden walking along the Regent's Canal which passes the craft stalls and quirky clothing shops of the famous market, a centre for London’s alternative culture.

Camden Town has existed only since the 1790s. Until then, the area north of Tottenham Court was given over to open land and fields. The green expanse was crossed by the now hidden River Fleet.

After Camden, there are quieter reaches, but the canal is still at the heart of a vibrant cultural scene. See how the landscape of London changes through Kings Cross, over Islington tunnel to where a man made river meets the Regents Canal.

The main centre of trade was the Regent's Canal Dock, a point for seaborne cargo to be unloaded onto canal boats. Cargo from abroad, including ice destined for what is now the museum, was unloaded there and continued its journey on barges.

By the 1840s the railways were taking traffic from the canals and there were attempts made, without success, to turn the canal into a railway at various times during the 19th Century.
There will be an option for post walk drinks. Bring friends or just yourself!
